<p>An appts. for bringing a gas and liquid into contact comprises an upright vessel, subdivided by generally horizontal partitions into compartments. A single vertical rotating shaft passing up through all compartments is fitted, in each compartment, with a cylinder, pref. a hollow cylinder closed at the top open at the bottom. Each horizontal partition has an opening e.g. round the shaft, to permit upward travel of the gas, while vertical pipe lengths through each partition interconnect the liquid is successive cylinders. The gas enters the lowest chamber, where the high rotational speed of the cylinder produces a thin film of gas on the external surface of the cylinder, which is then atomised into very small bubbles, which pass up to the liquid surface in this first compartment. The gas leaving the surface then ascends through the hole in the patition to contact the revolving cylinder in the next compartment, where the process is repeated and so on through further compartments. Specif. the lower edge of hollow cylinders may be serrated and/or stiffened by a flange.</p> |
