<p>1305108 Modified carbon black CABOT CORP 24 March 1970 [26 March 1969] 14081/70 Heading C1A A modified carbon black is prepared by contacting carbon black at a temperature of from 20‹ to 300‹ C. with a gaseous mixture comprising ozone and an oxide of nitrogen in an amount sufficient to produce a black containing from 1 to 50% by weight of said gaseous mixture, the molar ratio of ozone to oxide of nitrogen in the mixture being from 1 : 0À1 to 1 : 2À5. It is preferred that the black is a furnace black and the preferred amount of gas mixture in the black is from 6 to 20% by wt., the preferred temperature of treatment is from 100‹ to 225‹ C. and the molar ratio of ozone to oxide of nitrogen is from 1 : 1 to 1 : 2. Nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide are the specified oxides of nitrogen.</p> |
