1322805 Insect-repellent compositions B F GOODRICH CO 3 Nov 1970 [3 Nov 1969] 52119/70 Heading A5E [Also in Division C3] Insects, especially mosquitoes, are repelled by applying to the surface from which it is desired to repel the insects a composition comprising a thermoplastic polymer, and 0.05 to 4.0 parts by weight per part of resin of an insect repellent, the thermoplastic resin having the formula where R is hydrogen or methyl, R 1 is C 1-10 alkyl, R 2 is methyl or ethyl, x is 3-12 weight %, y is 44 to 96 weight % and z is 1 to 44 weight %, all based on the total weight of x, y and z, the three types of group being present in the polymer in a heterogeneous relative order. In dry film form, the resin holds the insect repellent and releases it gradually. The composition may also contain a carrier, such as an alkyl alcohol. The insect repellent is preferably N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide, and may also be oil of citronella, dimethyl or dibutyl phthalate, ethylhexanediol, indalene or a N- (meta-toluyl)-methyl piperidine.
