1492417 Temperature responsive elements HANSA METALLWERKE AG 29 July 1975 [28 Aug 1974] 31764/75 Heading G1D A thermal expansion element comprises an expansion chamber holding an expansion fluid acting on a diaphragm to displace a thrust pin, the expansion chamber having the form of either a hollow annulus or hollow inter-connecting ribs and communicating with the diaphragm through a connecting chamber. The expansion element shown, suitable for use in a hot and cold water mixer valve, comprises a diaphragm 4 secured in a base 1 and supporting a thrust pin 6 for movement within a bush 2; an integral part of the housing is a hollow cylinder 25 which is coaxial with and soldered to a hollow cylinder 26 to define an expansion chamber cavity 27 containing the expansion fluid. Sleeves 28 permit water flow through the inside of cylinder 26. In other embodiments, instead of the cylinders, V-shaped segments (10), Fig. 2 (not shown), soldered together along the outer edges define a ribbed star-shape expansion chamber comprising cavities (12), or two semi-cylindrical halves (15, 16), Fig. 3 (not shown), with external ribs (18) and internal slots (19), define the expansion chamber cavity. |
