1531532 A-D converters HEWLETT-PACKARD CO 29 Jan 1976 [10 Feb 1975] 03591/76 Heading H3H A recirculating a#d converter comprises a delay 700 outputting to a means 400 providing at least the inverse and a selected function of its input, and a comparator 20 giving a digital output as in each bit cycle the original signal, multiplied by means 400 is represented. In operation V o is fed to means 400, inversely fed back from transformer secondary 402 and presented to comparator 20, thus compensating for any D.C. offset, dependent on its sign fed back through 404 or 405 and represented to the comparator after negative feedback. The gain of the cascade and the comparator reference may be varied to compensate for thermal drift and the comparator may be clocked, to a position O, during each off duty half-cycle so it. produces an equal number of up/down decisions. In an embodiment using the means of Fig. 9 V o is passed via coil 406 m times to build up a voltage to be converted of A<SP>m</SP>V o , where A is the transformation ratio. If Vx # O this embodiment may be used to find the difference between V o and Vx. If Vx = V o then the converter can build up a signal to a level to be converted and if m=2<SP>P</SP> where P = 0, 1, 2 . . . then the converter may be used as a floating point coder. |
