METHOD FOR PREVENTING CENTRAL SEGREGATION IN CONTINUOUS CASTING

PURPOSE:To prevent central segregation in the stage of casting continuously a slab for a thick steel plate by applying electromagnetic stirring on the molten steel in a strand within the range where the ratio of the residual thickness of the molten steel with the overall thickness of the slab is specific. CONSTITUTION:Electromagnetic stirring is applied on the molten steel in a strand within the range where the ratio of the residual thickness of the molten steel in the stage of electromagnetic stirring to the overall thickness of the slab is 0.1-0.3 in a method for stirring electromagnetically the residual molten steel in the strand by an electromagnetic stirrer for the strand and reducing the segregation of the solute in the case of casting continuously a slab for a thick steel plate. The central segregation in continuous casting is thus effectively prevented.
