PURPOSE:To average the wear of horizontal rolls and to extend the life thereof by constructing opposed vertical rolls in continuous rolling for finishing a plate in such a manner that said rolls can be freely moved to the right and left regardless of the transverse center of the horizontal rolls thereby changing over pass lines. CONSTITUTION:The two vertical rolls 5, 6 of a vertical mill 4 in continuous rolling for finishing the plate 7 are made freely movable to the right and left regardless of the transverse center S of the horizontal rolls 2. The vertical rolls are shifted either to the left or to the right from the center S of the rolls 2 and the plate 7 is rolled if said plate has a narrow width. The wear of the rolls 2 is thereby averaged and the life thereof is extended; in addition, the plan for incorporation of rolling according to the width of the plate 7 is made free and the rolling efficiency is improved.
