<p>PURPOSE:To prevent quantization noise from outstanding even if the number of quantization levels is reduced by using the logarithmic sense of a human being to the brightness. CONSTITUTION:A video signal having gradation is quantized, when in a system for performing a digital processing such as a storage or a transmission, the maximum brightness (white level) of a light-and-shade picture obtained by outputting the video signal to a receiver is specified to be IW (IW>0), and the minimum brightness (black level) to be IB (IB>0), the video signal is quantized so as to obtain the quantizing step of the brightness level in the light-and-shade picture reproduced in the receiver having a logarithmically equal interval. Thereby, when the signal level of the video signal is small, a visual quantization noise interference is reduced. Accordingly, in case recording with the same quality, the capacity of a frame memory may be reduced by comparing with the conventional method.</p> |
