PURPOSE:To obtain an alpha,beta-unsaturated ether, unsaturated ether containing a conjugated double bond, hydroxyalkenyl ether, etc., by one stage by reacting an aldehyde with alcohol in the presence of an acidic catalyst in a liquid phase under a mild condition. CONSTITUTION:An aldehyde shown by formula I is reacted with an alcohol shown by formula II in the presence of an acidic catalyst (e.g. ferric chloride or p-toluenesulfonic acid) in a liquid phase under a reflux state at <=200 deg.C to give a compound shown by III [R<1> is 2-8C alkyl; R<4> is H or R<1> and R<4> show R-CH2-CH=; R<2> is 16C alkyl; R<3> is 4-24C chain or branched chain alkyl, cycloalkyl, oxyalkyl or group shown by formula IV (R' is H or CH3; (n) is 220), etc.; R<5> is alkyl or R-CH=CH- (R is alkyl)]. The prepared reaction product is useful as a functional monomer and can be prepared from the readily obtainable raw materials under a mild condition. |
