A wide-necked plastic barrel has a radially outwards projecting rib and a locking ring end cover, the barrel being blow-moulded from a parison. The external rib is formed by stretching the barrel wall outwards; this is done by expanding it radially with blowing pressure against a radially moving outer concave impression so that the movement closes off the shape of the rib.
