<p>PURPOSE:To eliminate a decrease in opening rate even when a switching element is provided and to realize good contrast display quality by forming a notched part in a picture element electrode of the active matrix substrate. CONSTITUTION:Picture element electrodes 1 which are arrayed in two dimensions for a display of respective picture elements, a scanning electrode which is provided in common with picture element electrodes 1 arrayed in a specific direction, and switching elements 2 - 4 for driving which are connected between each picture element electrode 1 and the scanning electrode are provided on a transparent insulating substrate. The notched part is provided at least one place of the picture element electrode. The area of the cut part is 7 - 32,000mum<2>, preferably 49 - 3,000mum<2>, or most preferably 225 - 2,600mum<2>. Consequently, any area which does not contribute to the display is not formed adjacently to the switching elements 2 - 4, there is no decrease in opening rate, and the active matrix substrate equipped with the driving switching elements having superior characteristics is realized.</p> |
