<p>An apparatus for detecting the presence and type of receiver media in a thermal printer includes a noncontact sensor and media transport means. The noncontact sensor is positioned along a sensor plane and has a light emitting member that emits light along the sensor plane towards the media, and a light detecting member that detects light reflected from the media along the sensor plane. The media transport means controls an angle formed by a surface of the media and the sensor plane so that the media follows a plane path adjacent the noncontact sensor. <IMAGE></p> |
