For setting up and controlling a thread sealing machine, upstream of which an aligning table is arranged and downstream of which a folding unit may be arranged, the length of a sheet (11) to be folded is measured by means of a first transducer (1) and a second transducer (2) coupled to a drive element (3) of the thread sealing machine. The measured length of the sheet to be folded is stored.
