PURPOSE:To automatically arrange specified connection code and subscript between keywords in a document editing device and to automatically correct the arrangement of a connection code for a keyword whose arranging position is changed only by a change instruction for the arranging position of the keyword and the arrangement of a subscript annexed to the connection code. CONSTITUTION:A connection code arranging area generating means 103 generates the arranging area of a connection code based upon the positional information of a keyword to be connected and a subscript arranging area generating means 202 generates a subscript arranging area based upon the connection code arranging area. Then the connection code is allocated by a connection code allocating means 104 and the subscript is allocated by a subscript allocating means 203. A connection code position following means 302 changes a relative connection code based upon the keyword changed at its arranging position. A subscript arranging position following means 303 changes the arranging position of the subscript annexed to the connection code changed by the means 302.
