PURPOSE: To provide a freezer not badly influencing surroundings and being capable of preventing hunting, and an operation method of an air conditioner using the freezer, and further the air conditioner having a simplified construction and being capable of reduction of the number of parts. CONSTITUTION: In a freezer including a compressor, the compressor 111 is a pole number conversion type, and a refrigerant return mechanism 15 is provided for returning part of a refrigerant discharged from the pole number conversion type compressor to a suction side of the compressor. The refrigerant return mechanism 15 and a pole number conversion mechanism 111a of the pole number conversion type compressor 111 are controlled to make compression capability variable.
