The device has a hand operated control (12) next to the seat. This control controls several switch channels, and has at least one switch for controlling further switch channels. An arm (14) can pivot about a horizontal axis near the control member. A lock (26) cooperates with the arm to set it in different angular positions. The control may be mounted on a console (10) next to the operator's seat. The arm then lies over the console. A lever (18) may be connected to the arm. The lever is arranged either at the side of the console or so that it can pivot out from the console.
