Recovery of useful product from vehicle oil, spillages etc

A reaction product comprises (A) oil containing environmentally-harmful amounts of water-soluble lipophilic components and (B) humic material, the oil in (A) having been obtained in the cleaning of vehicles, water craft or drilling rigs or from dewatering processes, leakages or accidents. Also claimed is the removal of (A) from vehicles, accidents, spillages inland or at sea etc. in an ecologically- compatible, mainly particulate form of the above reaction product which can be rapidly biodegraded to humus and a mineral component, the removal being effected by turbulently mixing the oil-containing material with an aqueous fluid containing a humic material.
