PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the subject composition used for food and drink, etc., by producing a composition containing arachidonic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid or a lipid containing them by culturing a microbe belonging to genus achlya and thereafter extracting the product from the microbe. SOLUTION: The objective lipid composition called single cell oil (SCO) to distinguish the one from the conventional one derived from flora and fauna, etc., and useful as a food and drink, etc., by a new lipid source, is obtained by culturing a new microbe ma-2801 (entrusted number FERM P-15890) belonging to genus achlya to allow the microbe to produce a lipid composition containing arachidonic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid or a lipid having the arachidonic acid or the eicosapentaenoic acid in the molecular structure, and extracting the lipid composition from the microbe. |
