摘要 PURPOSE:To prevent an engine from overrunning by setting a maximum allowable torque ratio to a desired torque ratio when a set torque ratio selector is operated to provide down-shift in high speed traveling and the set torque ratio exceeds the maximum allowable torque ratio given by the present vehicle speed. CONSTITUTION:In a torque ratio controller 4 for changing the torque ratio between the input and output members of a continuously variable transmission 2 by an actuator 9 according to the output of a set torque ratio selector 3 operated by a driver, a present torque ratio detecting means 41 for detecting the present torque ratio on the basis of the outputs of rotational frequency sensors 7, 8 detecting respective rotational frequencies of the input and output members of the continuously variable transmission gear is provided. Also a calculating means 42 for calculating the maximum allowable torque ratio attainable by the present vehicle speed from the rotational frequency of the output member and the maximum allowable frequency of the input member is provided. When C = the maximum allowable torque ratio/set torque ratio is C>=1, the set torque ratio is set to a desired torque ratio and when C>1, the maximum allowable torque ratio is set to the desired torque ratio for controlling the torque ratio.
