PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain a celsian compsn. having high heat resistance, low thermal expandability and electrical insulation characteristic in a large amt. by arc melting raw materials which can form the celsian compsn. under an inert gaseous atmosphere contg. a specific ratio of Ar, He or Ne or above in an arc melting furnace, then rapidly cooling the raw materials. SOLUTION: The glass raw materials 7 which can form the celsian compsn. are arc melted in the arc melting electric furnace while the inert gas 6 (10: gas cylinder) of which >=80 vol.% is Ar, He or Ne is blown from through-holes 5 formed in the longitudinal direction of the central part of graphite electrodes 4 and are then rapidly cooled. More preferably, the melt is tapped into water after arc melting and is rapidly cooled. The arc melting is preferably executed in the melting electric furnace lined with hot melt electroforming refractories 3. The celsian compsn. is preferably barium (strontium) alumina silicate consisting of BaO(SrO):xAl2 O3 :ySiO2 (x=0.5 to 1; y=1.5 to 2.5). |
