PURPOSE: A method and system for protecting children are provided to automatically lock a rear door when a driver selects a children protective mode and to inform the driver of the result of the door locking. CONSTITUTION: A system is composed of an operating switch for a children protective mode, a driving unit for locking a rear door, a sensor for vehicle speed, a sensor for locking the rear door, a microcomputer and a warning lamp. When selecting a children protective mode and sensing the travel of a vehicle, the system automatically locks the rear door and checks if the rear door is surely locked. Therefore, the system protects children from all kinds of accidents caused by opening the rear door.
