PURPOSE: A method for eliminating a space image data in a facsimile document is to prevent an unnecessary occupation of memory and reduce a transmission time remarkably. CONSTITUTION: A total byte count variable, an empty line count variable and a page starting address variable are initialized(S100). A current byte variable is initialized to zero(S101). A scanner device scans one line of a document, a CODEC(code and decode) codes an image of the scanned document, and the coded image is stored into a memory(S102). A byte value of the coded image data is replaced with the current byte variable(S103). If a current scanned line is empty, the empty line count variable is increased by one(S104,S105). If the current scanned line is not empty, the empty line count variable is initialized to zero(S104,S106). The current byte variable is added to the total byte count variable(S107). After all documents is scanned(S108), a final address of the coded image data is replaced with a page ending address variable(S109). A byte value of the empty area is calculated(S110). A byte value of the effective area is calculated(S111). A space image data of the empty area is eliminated(S112).
