PURPOSE: A method for removing a degaussing coil of a cathode ray tube is provided to operate a degaussing coil during an established reference time though a television is turned off before the degaussing coil is operated when the degaussing coil is operated by that the television is turned on. CONSTITUTION: The method includes a driving step(S3), a checking step(S4), a stopping step(S6) and a partly driving step(S8). In the driving step, the degaussing coil is driven when a main power is turned on. In the checking step, whether the previously established reference time is over or not is checked by detecting the driving time of the degaussing coil. In stopping step, the driving of the degaussing coil is stopped in a case the driving time of the degaussing coil passes over the reference time. In the partly driving step, in a case the driving time of the degaussing coil does not pass over the reference time, when the main power is turned off, the power supply for a cathode ray tube is cut off and the degaussing coil is stopped after being continuously driven for the reference time.
