PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-plating wire for arc welding and the arc welding method using this wire, with which the arc stability at the welding time is good and the developing quantity of spatter and fume is very little and good welded bead can be formed under smooth welding workability. SOLUTION: This wire is the one, in which insulating inorganic powder having 0.001-2μm average grain diameter and/or electric conductive inorganic powder having 0.01-5μm average grain diameter are stuck on the welding wire surface at 0.001-2 g/10 kg of the wire with water soluble macromolecula, and by this the non-plating wire for arc welding drastically reducing the developing quantity of the hume and the spatter, is obtd.
