PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hold the temperature of a heating unit always in the state proper for cutting a sewing thread by providing a control means for repeating application /interception of an electric current so that the temperature of the heating unit is converged with reference to a set temperature in an apparatus where a sewing thead is cut by the heating unit adapted to generate heat by application of an electric current. SOLUTION: In this control device 22 of a sewing machine 21, a heater transformer 26 capable of supplying a set current to a heating unit 24 is connected to the heating unit, the heater transformer 26 is connected to a power supply 27, and the current carrying time to the heating unit 24 is controlled by a switch part 29 formed by a relay or the like. The switch part 29 is connected to a control panel 34 through a CPU substrate 33. The panel 34 controls the switch part 29 according to output signals of an input means 35 for setting the frequency of repeating application/interception of an electric current supplied to the heating unit 24 and a setting means 36 for setting the application time/ interception time during power on-and-off operation, thereby holding the heating unit 24 in a designated temperature range.
