The invention concerns a method and a device for producing microcrystalline materials, preferably sub-microcrystalline or nanocrystalline, by multiple plastic deformation of a sample of material, the external shape of the sample (1) corresponding, after the first deformation, substantially to that resulting from the last deformation. The inventive method is characterized in that it comprises the following steps: a) deforming by compression the material sample (1) along one first of three substantially mutually normal spatial directions, limits being established, after free expansion of the sample (1), in at least one of the other two directions; b) deforming by compression the material sample (1) along a second of the three substantially mutually normal directions, limits being established, after free expansion of the sample, in at least one of the two other directions; c) proceeding with steps a) and b) until a predetermined microstructure of the material sample (1) is achieved, the individual deformation steps being carried out at temperatures Tv ranging between room temperature and 0.5 Ts, Ts representing the melting point of the material concerned. |
