PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus in which an optical system and an imaging element are fitted at appropriate positions, a depth of field is increased, the optical system is simplified, cost is reduced, and a reproduced image having an appropriate image quality and hardly being affected by noise is obtained, and to provide an apparatus and a method of manufacturing the imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an optical system 110 and an imaging element 120 which form a primary image; and an image processing apparatus 140 which turns the primary image into a precise final image. The fitting positions of the optical system 110 and the imaging element 120 are so adjusted that contrast is detected by stopping down the aperture of the optical system having a light wave front modulation element which modulates optical transfer function (OTF), and the detected contrast becomes a preliminarily set threshold value or larger.
