PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for separating a fastener, which enable a fastener part of a packaging bag with a fastener to be separated more surely than by the use of a conventional art. SOLUTION: Female-side and male-side suction cups 16 and 17 are each attached to the bag 1 on the outsides of the female and male parts 4 and 3 of the fastener 2 by a suction force. When the operations of contact/separation arms 20 and 21 bring both the suction cups away from each other by a predetermined distance, an air cylinder 24 is concurrently operated for the extension of a rod 25; the male-side suction cup is turned clockwise by a predetermined angle with a pin 22 serves as a supporting point; a suction part 17a is shifted to a shift position on the side of a bag opening 1a; and a male part of the fastener is pulled obliquely upward. Subsequently, the male-side suction cup is returned to a facing position to face the female-side suction cup, while the contact/separation arm is kept at the position without change; and the male-side suction cup is turned in a reciprocating manner again, according to need.
