A method for controlling the operation of a remote controller is provided to sense button touching as well as button pressing when a user inputs a signal through a remote controller, thereby servicing a convenient interface function. It is checked whether a signal of a remote controller is inputted by button pressing or button touching(S202). If the signal of the remote controller is inputted by button pressing, an image display device operates according to input of a corresponding key(S204). If the signal of the remote controller is inputted by button touching, explanation information about a corresponding key is displayed on an OSD(On-Screen Display) screen of the image display device(S208).
