PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a footstep chain abnormality detection device of a passenger conveyor capable of informing the arrival of the timing of re-adjustment of the tension of a footstep chain before the elongation of the footstep chain becomes an abnormal value. SOLUTION: The footstep chain abnormality detection device of the passenger conveyor comprises a limit switch 10 having a normally closed contact b and a normally opened contact a, a cam fitting part 30a having a guide cutout 31, a cam body part 42 arranged on the cam fitting part 30a in a horizontally movable manner in the extending direction of the guide cutout 31, a power transmitting means for transmitting the moving force of a tension shaft 2 in the extending direction of the guide cutout 31 to the cam body part 42 without transmitting the moving force of the tension shaft 2 in the vertical direction, and a monitoring control panel 60 informing that the adjustment timing of the tension of the footstep chain arrives when the closing signal of the contact a is input. The cam body part 42 has a cam surface 43 for performing the opening operation of the contact "b" and the opening operation of the contact "a" when the amount of movement of the tension shaft 2 itself reaches the first amount of movement or more and the second amount of movement or more.
