ELECTROLYTIC APPARATUS FOR ELECTRO-REFINING AND RECOVERY OF PLATINUM METALS, AND METHOD THEREOF

The present invention relates to a device and a method to smelt platinum metal and/or collect the platinum metal from wastes containing the platinum metal such as a fuel cell catalyst and a vehicle exhaust system by using an electrochemical method. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method to easily collect a platinum metal compound using an ion exchange film and a method to easily and quickly collect platinum metal by returning and electroplating the platinum metal to a cathode while oxidizing and disassociating the platinum metal in a non-aqueous electrolyte at ultrahigh speeds using the platinum metal as an anode and using a solid or liquid metal as the cathode. As such, the present invention is capable of oxidizing and disassociating platinum metal faster than before as well as easily manufacturing a useful platinum metal compound; and solves a problem where an ion of the oxidized and disassociated platinum metal is electroplated to a counterpart electrode again when the platinum metal is electrochemically oxidized and disassociated.
