The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for searching for information in a mobile device. Objects of the present invention are to provide mobile ontology which is simplified to be applied in a mobile environment having restricted resources, and to provide mobile ontology which can provide a combined search environment by combining DBs used by various respective applications in a mobile device. Furthermore, an object of the present invention is to provide a semantic search engine for providing a function of searching a local database in mobile equipment and making an extended search of the Web as desired. For this purpose, the present invention discloses a mobile ontology database generated by applying mobile ontology to a local database, and a semantic search engine apparatus. In this case, according to the present invention, the semantic search engine apparatus comprises: a query string arrangement unit which rearranges a natural language query string received from a user, and converts the rearranged string into a keyword graph; a response graph generation unit which generates response graphs including information about query intention of the user by using the keyword graph and an ontology database; a score calculation unit which calculates user intention suitability scores for the generated respective response graphs; and a search result generation unit which selects a preferential response graph based on the scores, generates a meta-SQL string by using the selected preferential response graph, and generates a search result for the query string of the user by using the generated meta-SQL string.
