PURPOSE:To prevent an increase of the maximum fuel injection quantity by keeping a maximum, effective stroke for obtaining the maximum fuel injection quantity constant even when the length of a plunger in the axial direction becomes short because of wear on the plunger or its vicinity after a long period of operation. CONSTITUTION:A plunger 6 is provided with a leak port 47, which extends from a spill port 23 and opens into a peripheral surface of the plunger 6. An opening part 47a of the leak port 47 is released from a left end surface 24b of a spill ring 24, when the spill ring 24 is situated at a maximum injection position and also the spill port 23 is away from the position apart from a right end surface 24a of the spill ring 24 by a distance La, or a maximum effective stroke. Meanwhile, the opening part 47a is completely closed by the spill ring 24 when the spill port 23 moves to the position apart from the right end surface 24a of the spill ring 24 by the distance La, or the maximum effective stroke, as the plunger 6 moves. |
