962,089. Screw-and-nut gearing. CINCINNATI MILLING MACHINE CO. April 10, 1963 [Sept. 17, 1962], No. 14310/63. Heading F2Q. Ball-type screw-and-nut gearing comprises balls 22 circulating in a continuous track formed between a screw 16 and nuts 10, 12 which are separated by a spacer 26 causing an axial preloading, in tension, of the screw 16. The nuts 10, 12 are fixed together by a pair of pins 38 driven into holes 40 extending through the nuts and spacer 26. The balls are recirculated through channels in end caps 30, 32 and an axially extending return hole 44. A male thread 52 is formed in each end cap 30, which is preferably made of a tough oil-resistant plastic, and functions to wipe the screw thread clean. |
