Catalyst is prepd. by mixing ferric or ferrous hydroxide, pref. after roasting, with KOH, silicon cpds. (esp. K silicate), Al salts (esp. Al nitrate) and a Ca(OH)2 suspension and, after shaping, activating by heating in an air-stream at 500-700 degrees C. With the resulting catalyst (40-95% Fe2O3, 5-20% K2O, 0.5-10% SiO2, 0.5-10% CaO, 0.5-10% Al2O3) it is possible to carry out side-chain dehydrogenations at a high rate (>0.5 1/1 contact/hr.), esp. for dehydrogenating ethylbenzene to styrene in both isothermal and adiabatic reactors. |
