Refractory lining material is produced by placing a layer of aluminothermic materials and refractory material in the bottom of a mould under a reservoir containing a similar composition, firing the layer in the mould to initiate an exothermic reaction in which the refractory material is melted and the metal oxide component of the aluminothermic materials is reduced and coated with the melted refractory material and then continuously supplying the composition to the mould from the reservoir to produce a homogeneous material. As shown in Fig. 1, a lining is formed inside a truncated part 1 using an internal truncated core 4 e.g. of agglomerated sand, further composition 7 being supplied through nozzle 26 of tank 10 being fixed by legs 11 and the bottom 15 thereof being rotated by means of its peripheral teeth 19 and pinion 20, the internal core 12 of tank 10 remaining stationary. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) the cylindrical part (1) defines cavity (5) with sand core (4) and is mounted on rotating platform (28), composition (7) being supplied from nozzle (30) above it. In a further embodiment (Figs. 6, 7, not shown), refractory lining bricks are produced in cavities 33, composition 7 being supplied from hoppers 36 reciprocated by eccentric/crank assembly 42-45. |
