Novel compounds and and their protected derivatives are prepared by condensing N-protected L-leucine, L-leucylleucine or L-leucyl-L-leucyl-L-leucine, free or activated at the C-terminal, with C-protected L . leucyl - L - leucyl - L - (tyrosine or phenylalanine), L-leucyl-L-(tyrosine or phenylalanine) or L-(tyrosine or phenylalanine), free or activated at the N-terminal respectively and if necessary eliminating any protective groups. Intermediates isolated are CBO-leu-phe-OMe; H - leu - phe - OMe. HCl; H - leu - tyr - OMe. HCl; CBO - leu - leu - phe - OMe; and H - leuleu-phe-OMe.HBr. Pharmaceutical compositions active as hypotensive agents comprise a novel compound as defined above together with a suitable excipient for oral or parenteral administration.
