Fabricating an abrasive complex in which a fibre mat formed from drawn synthetic resin continuous filaments, is laid down on a conveyor belt, the density and cohesion being increased either by needling or by spraying with a suitable binder, e.g. a rubber latex or polyvinyl alcohol, and thereafter the surface is coated with a layer of abrasive, e.g. corundum silica etc. dispersed in a suitable resin, e.g. phenol/formaldehyde MF, epoxy resin, acrylic latex etc. with the addition of pigments, if required, the composite strip then being passed through a heated chamber to harden the resin. The strip can then be turned over and a layer of a suitable thermoplastic, e.g. polyethylene, hot pressed thereon, to stabilise and protect the fibre mat.
