In order to accommodate axial misalignment a clutch release collar includes a coupling member, such as a bearing, capable of limited radial movement under frictional restraint. In the form shown a ball-bearing 25 is mounted between the fork operated sleeve 24 and the release ring 36, an annular clearance 27 being provided between the sleeve 24 and inner ball race 26, which is pressed by a spring washer 32 against a friction disc 30 carried by the sleeve. The release ring 36 engages the outer ball race 35 and is held in position by a cover 37. Other arrangements are described in which the outer race engages the friction disc or in which the ring 36 is integral with the outer or inner race. |
