Novel silanes having the general formula (RO)3- x(R1x)Si-A, where R is a hydrocarbon and R1 a monovalent hydrocarbon radical free from aliphatic unsaturation, x is 0 to 3 and A is a radical attached to silicon via a siliconcarbon bond and which contains at least 2 isocyanato groups. R and R1 can be alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl. A can be a hydrocarbon radical or it can contain ether, thioether, ester, thioester, urethane and thiourethane linkages. The novel polymeric siloxanes contain at least one unit of the general formula <FORM:1113228/C3/1> where y is 0 to 2, and can also contain units of the general formula <FORM:1113228/C3/2> where R11 is a monovalent hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon radical free from aliphatic unsaturation and n is 0 to 3. The silanes and siloxanes may be prepared by (1) reacting a diisocyanate with a silane or siloxane containing 2 reactive groups e.g. hydroxy or mercapto, (2) reacting an isocyanate having more than 2 isocyanato groups with a silane or siloxane containing one reactive group or (3) addition of a polyisocyanate containing aliphatic unsaturation to a silicon-bonded hydrogen atom in the presence of a catalyst e.g. platinum. In the examples silanes of the types <FORM:1113228/C3/3> <FORM:1113228/C3/4> <FORM:1113228/C3/5> <FORM:1113228/C3/6> are prepared. |
