1,077,332. Socket contacts. AMP Inc. Dec. 10, 1965 [Dec. 16, 1964], No. 52444/65. Heading H2E. A socket contact comprises a tubular conducting member 6 surrounded by a sleeve 4, one end of the member 6 being slotted to form a plurality of resilient contact leaves 20 for receiving a pin 38, the other end, together with the surrounding outer sleeve 4, being crimped to the bared end 32 of a wire. Preferably the member 6 is a thin tube of beryllium copper having an open seam 26-28 and its inner surface gold-plated, and the thicker outer sleeve 4 is of a malleable brass or bronze suitable for crimping. The outer sleeve 4 extends slightly beyond the contact member 6 at 3 to allow straightening of the blades 20 when the pin is inserted, the extending portion having a reduced diameter to retain the contact member and prevent insertion of an oversized pin. The socket contact has a constriction 10-12 for retaining it in a connector block. |
