Esters of ortho-, iso- or terephthalic acid with 8 or more C atoms in each ester gp. are prepared by treating ortho, iso- or terephthalic acid with an acyclic, conjugated diolefine in a halide-free medium in the presence of 10-5 to 1.0 mol. of a noble metal cpd. or a cpd. of a gp. VIII metal of the periodic system. The preferred catalyst is Pt II acetate, Pt-aceto-acetonate or tetrakis (triphenyl phosphinyl) platinum. |
