PRODUCTION OF QUARTZ GLASS PREFORM

PURPOSE:To easily and efficiently produce a porous glass preform by axial deposition in vapor phase by shortening the effective stroke of a porous glass pulling-up device and the total length of the pulling-up device. CONSTITUTION:A porous glass preform is pulled up by a pulling-up device in the production of a quartz glass preform by axial formation in vapor phase. In this case, the pulling-up device is provided with a pulling-up mechanism for vertically moving a carriage to rotate the porous glass preform and a mechanism for horizontally moving the carriage at right angles to the pulling-up shaft. In the device for pulling up a porous glass preform in the production of a quartz glass preform by axial formation in vapor phase, the seed rod of the porous glass preform is directly gripped by a porous glass preform takeout device without any supporting rod when the preform in the pulling-up device is taken out.
