[Also in Division B6] A heat-sensitive material for transfer processes comprises a transparent support coated with either (a) a layer of a thermoplastic resin, or tackifying plasticizer and a heat-sensitive colour-producing system, the layer on heating forming a tacky mixture which hardens sufficiently slowly to allow the tacky material to be transferred to a succession of recepter sheets or (b) a pervious opaque layer which is overcoated with the layer specified in (a) (the colour forming system may be replaced by a coloured material) in both cases a coloured image can be seen through the support after imagewise heating. In the examples, an onion-skin translucent paper is coated with a layer containing a dispersion of crystal violet Lactone and Biophenol "A" or a spiropyram in a styrene copolymer, N- ethyl-p -toluene sulphonamide and polyisobutylene. Alternatively, the support may be coated with an opaque layer of titanium dioxide dispersed in a cellulose ester and overcoated with a layer containing polyisobutylene, styrene copolymer, N-ethyl-p-toluene sulphonamide as plasticizer, a dye and a mixture of fatty amides which form a dye solution on heating which penetrates the opaque layer. The heat-softenable material may be transferred to a recepter sheet to give a coloured image. A deeper coloured image may be produced by providing one colour-forming reactant in the receptor sheet. |
