The generator boiler has part of its heating surface fired with low grade fuel whilst further evaporating surfaces and the superheater are located in the main boiler fired with high grade fuel. There is a water/steam separator downstream of the low grade section supplying steam to the superheater via a reducing valve. The separated water is fed to the main boiler. The feed water line leading to the low grade section contains a regulating valve which is controlled as a function of the ratio between the amount of feed water supplied to this section and the amount of steam taken from the separator. Upstream of the regulating valve the feed water line branches off to feed the main boiler.
