1,133,910. Ionically cross-linked polymer compositions. AMICON CORP. 10 May, 1967, No. 21636/67. Heading C3P. [Also in Division D2] A composition is formed of two synthetic organic linear polymers ionically cross-linked to each other, one of the polymers containing dissociable anionic groups and the other dissociable cationic groups, and a water-miscible compound which is non-volatile at 20‹ C., and which is either an acid having an ionization constant greater than 10<SP>-2</SP> or an organic oxysulphur and/or oxyphosphorus compound and which is distributed in the composition. The two polymers may be sodium polystyrene sulphonate and polyvinyl benzyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, and the compound may be sulphuric or phosphonic acid, dimethyl sulphoxide or hexamethyl phosphoramide. In examples, the ionically cross-linked polymer was dissolved in an aq. solution of (1) hydrobromic acid, dimethyl sulphoxide and 1,4- dioxane which was then spread on a plate and the film dried by heating; (2) as (1) wherein the acid is hydrochloric. |
