1313614 Coated bricks VESTISCHE GLASHUTTE GmbH 21 July 1970 [30 July 1969] 35187/70 Heading B2E A ceramic, e.g. clay brick, is provided with a protective coating of a thermosetting resin containing glass and/or quartz powder as a filler, suitably in amounts of 10 to 80% by weight and of grain size 0.1 to 15 millimicrons, by heating the brick to above 100‹C and coating with a solventless epoxy resin containing the filler and hardening the resin at elevated temperature. The coating may also contain between 2 and 20% by weight of pigments or dyes, plasticizers, fillers and thickeners, silicon oils or resins. The coating may be 0.2 to 5 millimetres thick and may be of varying thickness over the surface in order to form decorative patterns. The coating may be restricted to the surface of brick which will remain visible when it is laid. Porous bricks may be provided with a sealing coating before application of the epoxy resin. |
