[Also in Division H4] A variable electronic phase-shifting device intended for the scanning of radar antennas (not shown) comprises a number of ultra high-frequency switches, four such switches C 1 ... C 4 being shown in the drawing. The switches are of the " circulator " type and are controlled by coils B 1 . . . B 4 . Each switch has two positions, i.e. a straight through position as shown by the solid line arrow for switch C 1 and another position indicated by the broken line arrows in which energy is directed along outputs S 1 ... S 4 to incident-energy reflectors R 1 . . . R 4 to produce a phase-shift, the degree of phase-shift being determined by the lengths L 1 . . . L 4 of the waveguides or coaxial cables forming the energy paths to and from the reflectors. As shown, the lengths L 1 . . . L 4 are different and produce, respectively, phaseshifts of #/8, #/4, #/2 and #. Thus by suitably controlling the switches C 1 . . . C 4 sixteen equally spaced phase shifts may be produced between 0 and 2#. |
