<p>The addition of a trivalent iron compound to the sewage to be treated upstream of the oxidizing step and of an aluminium polymer compound to the active sludge being recycled to the same oxidizing step causes beneficial effects to take place on the simultaneous removal of phosphorus and nitrogen.</p>
