1,136,886. Delivering measured quantities of liquid. MERCK & CO. Inc. 30 March, 1967 [31 March, 1966], No. 14589/67. Heading B8N. [Also in Divisions A5 and F1] An aerosol dispensing device such as for dispensing a medically active ingredient, comprises a container for the liquid and a metering valve 34 having a valve member 44 adapted, when in the position shown and with the container inverted, to allow liquid to enter a measuring chamber 35 and, when actuated, to close off communication with the container so that the liquid in the measuring chamber is dispensed through bores 46, 47 in the valve. The measuring chamber is surrounded by a metal sleeve 26 which is adapted to fit into a tubular member 80 formed in a nozzle case (21, Fig. 2) the valve 44 fitting into a recess 74 communicating with a nozzle element (84, Fig. 11). The case may be formed with a tubular member 72 when the device is used as an inhaler; alternatively, the casing may have an angled discharge tube (82) adapted to be fitted into a nostril. The container may be of glass and coated with a film of plastics material. A window-like opening may be left in the plastics coating in order that the level of the contents may be observed. |
